On October 4^th Peter Schwartz, a world renowned futurist and Honorary Professor of the HSE, spoke at a seminar organized by the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge.

On September 28^th 2011, Dmitry Medvedev, President of the Russian Federation, signed an executive order ‘Approval of the list of members of the Public chamber of the Russian Federation’. As part of this, Yaroslav Kuzminov, Rector of the Higher School of Economics, became a member of the public chamber.

On the September 19th Eric Maskin, Nobel laureate in economics, Professor at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton University (USA), Chief Research Fellow at the HSE International Laboratory of Decision Choice and Analysis, arrived in Moscow again. What is his programme for this visit to the HSE?

Ronald Inglehart, Professor at the University of Michigan and Academic Supervisor of the HSE Laboratory for Comparative Social Research, and Pippa Norris, Professor in political science at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, have both won the Johan Skytte Prize in Political Science. The awards ceremony took place on September 24^th at the University of Uppsala, Sweden.

On September 21^st the Russian Government Grant Council announced the names of the winners of the second open competition for Russian Government grants for state support of scientific research conducted under the supervision of leading scientists in Russian universities. Among the 39 winners were two applications from the Higher School of Economics.

From August 23^rd-27^th a meeting of Nobel laureates in economics took place in Lindau, Germany. This event is traditionally organized once every three years. Henry Penikas, lecturer at the HSE Department of Mathematical Economics and Econometrics and one of the participants at this meeting, told us about the event.

On August 1^st at the Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, the XI International summer research school Baltic Practice began. This is an annual event organized by the HSE Department of Public Policy. Nina Belyaeva, Academic Supervisor of the school and Head of the Department of Public Policy, told us about the schedule of the practice and the new areas of research which are being carried out as part of it.
